Nambu Nayaki Amman Temple

The goddess Nambu Nayaki Amman is revered as the guardian of the south. Nambu Nayagi Amman Temple is situated in Dhanushkodi. Prior to the 1964 storm, the entire city of Dhanushkodi sank into the sea, and the Indian government declared it to be a ghost town—a dangerous place for people to live. The Nambu Nayagi Ambal statue from the destroyed city was moved and preserved in its current location. Near the Nambu Nayagi Amman Temple, among the sand pits, is a screw pine plantation.

Those without children tie a miniature cradle with a baby doll and pray to Nambu Nayagi Amman. Worship her by placing your name in the tree in this temple, saying, “I will put your name if you blessed me with a child.” Since many infants on the island of Rameswaram were born after reciting Nambu Nayaki, the majority of people in Rameswaram go by the name Nambu.
