Along with Badrinath, Puri, and Dwarka, Rameshwaram is one of the well-known Indian temples that pilgrims visit in hopes of finding salvation. Regarding this Tamil Nadu spiritual destination, it is located in the town of Rameshwaram and is one of the 274 Paadal Petra Sthalams. It is particularly mentioned in the songs of Sundarar, Appar, and Tirugnana Sambandar, the three well-known Nayanars.
The Pandya Dynasty oversaw the temple’s development at the beginning of the 12th century, and Vaishnavites, Shaivites, and Smarthas regard it as a hallowed location. This temple is linked to the Indian epic Ramayana, wherein Lord Rama worshipped Lord Shiva’s lingam in order to atone for the sins he committed during his battle with the Lankan monarch, Ravana.
